                      The castles of Vallagarina

Just a few kilometres from Ala rises one of the oldest and most famous castles of the Trentino region: The Sabbionara Castle. This huge castle complex nestles into the   hillside, seeming to follow the curves of the landscape with its massive walls, its five towers, the baron's palace and the impressive keep. Driving along the Vallagarina valley,   beyond Rovereto, you come across Castel Noarna with its renaissance-style frescoes, which are still visible today. In 1647, the castle became the setting for the famous witch   trials that took place and from which many legends have emerged, and still, today, stages famous historical re-enactments. The castle visit usually includes a   tasting of the wines produced from the grapes which grow in the surrounding vineyards.
